Clevedon Firestation Visit!

What a great morning!
Murray from the Clevedon Firestation gave us a really informative tour around their main Fire-engine. We discovered that: the main component of this engine is a very powerful water pump; they have four huge hoses and a smaller capacity hose (which gets most of the use); they have a Defibrillator on board and some huge tools used for cutting open cars. The kids were allowed to sit in the fire-fighters seats which they thought was very exciting! Then they even got to have a go with the fire hose!!! (Yes, so did some of us Mums).
Murry finished up with a practical safety talk: Did you know that you can't smell in your sleep? Those of us who thought we'd smell a fire if it started in the night were surprised to hear that (& yes, motivated to get those smoke alarms sorted out). Another important thing we learned is that in todays world with all the synthetic materials in our homes, we have 3 mins to get out of a house before the smoke inhalation finishes us off. There are some great shots in the album - take a look!
