Clevedon Firestation Visit!

What a great morning!
Murray from the Clevedon Firestation gave us a really informative tour around their main Fire-engine. We discovered that: the main component of this engine is a very powerful water pump; they have four huge hoses and a smaller capacity hose (which gets most of the use); they have a Defibrillator on board and some huge tools used for cutting open cars. The kids were allowed to sit in the fire-fighters seats which they thought was very exciting! Then they even got to have a go with the fire hose!!! (Yes, so did some of us Mums).
Murry finished up with a practical safety talk: Did you know that you can't smell in your sleep? Those of us who thought we'd smell a fire if it started in the night were surprised to hear that (& yes, motivated to get those smoke alarms sorted out). Another important thing we learned is that in todays world with all the synthetic materials in our homes, we have 3 mins to get out of a house before the smoke inhalation finishes us off. There are some great shots in the album - take a look!

To a special mum

This Mothers Day, we want to honour you for the difficult yet wonderful role you fill. No-one said being a mother was easy - there are times we never dreamed it could be so difficult and challenging, but also times when it's so very rewarding.

It started in the womb - your journey of protecting your child, and making selfless decisions to do so. That's where you first discovered an inkling of the love that was to come. Through a painful and scary but oh so miraculous process your little one was brought into the world. Who would have thought those feelings of tenderness fierce protectiveness and ambitious hope for this one's life would start so soon? Feeling such pride when your child first smiles, learns to wave, clap, crawl and walk. Amazement when they start to speak, then use full sentences. Delight at the mannerisms they've picked up from you and your loved ones. Feeling thankful when they make friends with others.

Being a mother is such an important job. When they scrape their knee and think 'it's all over' no-one else can comfort them like mum. We build up their self-esteem when it's taken a knock at kindy or school. We teach them to love younger siblings. Sometimes it seems our continual reminders will never end - to use their manners, share their toys, hug their grandparents, use quiet voices inside... And no-one can prepare us for the fear we feel when they become ill with a soaring temberature, hacking cough or an unknown rash...the worry that keeps us awake at night.

We see some of the amazing job that you do, and want to tell you that 'you are a GREAT mum!' Your child/ren could have no better qualified mother than you to love, nurture and guide them through life. They are truly blessed to have you!!

Much love from the WonderMums team xxx
