Christmas is coming!

15 sleeps till Christmas!
14 sleeps till Christmas Eve - which is really my personal favourite.

Last night we got together and had a pot luck dinner together, and my goodness, there was some yummy food! Check out the photo album here. Click here for photos from our last Tues too.

Wow - we have truly had such a great year at WM this year. We really enjoy hanging out with you each week and being a part of your and your precious children's lives. We hope you have a GREAT christmas break and you especially have so much fun making those treasured childhood memories.

We're all looking forward to a good ole catchup in the New Year!

Vegge Garden with Joy

Today we had Joy Gallichan come and share with us from her years of growing vegetables. She gave us plenty of basic down to earth (no pun intended) advice on how to grow things, what to grow when, and how to 'attempt' to keep our gardens from simply being a smorgasbord for pests!

In the photo is a small contraption made from cutting both ends off a 3L bottle and a tent peg. You place this around your seedlings and hold it in place with the peg. This acts as a small impromptu glasshouse and helps to keep snails off too. The little container pictured has lamb pellets in it which you just lay over the soil and then as they get wet they break down and are great fertiliser.

You can download Joy's notes here.
You can download notes about Companion Planting here.

"The Gardeners Prayer"
Lord, grant that in some way it may rain every day, say from about midnight, until 3 o'clock in the morning, but you see, it must be gently and warm, so it can soak in...
Grant at the same time, that it would not rain on the campion, alyssum, helianthum, lavender and the others which you in your infinite wisdom know are drought loving plants - I will write their names on a bit of paper, if you like...
And grant that the sun may shine the whole day through, but not everywhere (not for instance, on gentian, plantain lily & rhododendron), and not too much...
That there may be plenty of dew, and very little wind enough worms, no mealy bugs, slugs and snails, no mildew or fungus, and that once a week, thin liquid manure may fall from heaven. Amen.

Carol Singing at Elmwood

Today we had the opportunity to bless our local grey-power community. The residents at Elmwood were totally charmed with our wee babies & toddlers while we attempted to sing our carols. Actually, I thought we sounded great! A huge thanks to Dave Barr for his accompaniment on the guitar.

After our songs, we let the kids give out Christmas cards and have a chat to all our listeners. How proud were we of our kids! Next on the agenda was to visit some people who don't get of their rooms very much, and we gave them a pipecleaner christmas tree decoration.

It is definitely a good feeling doing something so simple which totally brightens someone elses day. Thanks ladies for coming along! A few more pics are in the album.

Christmas Craft Night

Wow - we made some pretty stunning decorations if I don't say so myself! It was also just so nice sitting around chatting with other women and relaxing!! We made those old-fashioned Pomanders, and it wasn't too long till we were all stinked out with cloves. :o) Hopefully they dry properly and are a success.

With some gorgeous papers, we made some 3D decorations complete with beads and ribbons. These were fairly easy to do, and very satisfying. Check out some of our pictures. If anyone wants the instructions, email us on wondermums.rewa@gmail.com.

Oh and supper! Divine!

Crumbles Studio

Our visit to Crumbles Studio in Howick, was soo cool. The kids loved painting their ceramics, and it was an added bonus that the paint dries super fast too! Most of us made someone a Christmas pressie. Soon they will be having late nights for Christmas. I intend to get back out there to have a nice relaxing evening painting something pretty. If you want to know more, you can browse their website here. Check out our photos from the morning! When you first paint them, they look dull and lifeless. But see below, the difference once they've been fired! They look awesome, girls!

Think Pink!!

Wow - what a start to the term!

A range of yummy pink themed items were for sale with all the proceeds going to Breast Cancer Foundation. October is their big month for raising money and awareness.

We were able to donate $81 as a direct result of this morning tea! Congratulations, girls! It is great to be able to give to causes like this - especially something that effects (or has done in the past) so many of the awesome women in our lives.

If you would like to find out more about the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation, check out their website http://www.nzbcf.org.nz/.

The Funky Monkeys!

What a great concert! 13 of us Mums took our little kids along, and they all loved it! Even the littlest ones! It was great to hear them singing about cool things like using your manners and exercising! Thanks heaps to Liz at Kiddywinks for inviting us - we had a blast!

Jewellery Night!

Wow - what a lot of fun we had! Rivka showed us how to create some designs that were simple enough for us to be able to do, yet very effective! Necklaces, earrings, & even bracelets were made, using a variety of shapes and combinations of beads. We had a scrummy supper of Apricot & Pinenut Cake and some weird but yummy Cats Tongues! We look forward to the next one!

Fathers Day Coffee & Cake

Today we celebrated our Dads! Fathers are such an important person in our children's lives, and we appreciate who our husbands are to our children (and in some cases, who our own Dads are to our children).

I read a quote yesterday that said "It is much easier to become a father than to BE one"... How true! Sometimes I really wonder how our men do it. They work a job, but still come home with energy to play with their little ones and tuck them in at night, and even have some left over for Mum. :o)

Fathers, we love you heaps and appreciate you so much! The kids spent some time decorating some biscuits to take home for their dads while the Mums got some time out to watch RAIN by Nooma. (If you missed it, you can catch it here). Happy Fathers Day, Dad!

Money Talk

Today we were taught a little more about budgeting and the long term benefits by Justin Lee, our friendly accountant.
If you missed it, or would like to have a re-read, here it is to download: Taming the Budget Beast.
In 2008, Justin went through exactly how to build a budget that actually works - if you would like to recap, here it is: Balancing the Books & A Sample Budget.

He touched on how important it is to know your end goals. If you're not sure how to calculate when your mortgage will be paid in full, check out these sites:

Kiwibank

Thanks again, Justin, for your help and as always, a little humour.

Swapsies Day / Meal Cook-up

Hi Ladies!

We had an awesome morning today! With our double dipper swapsie and cook-up day! Thank you to all of you who donated clothes/toys and food! We were able to cook a whole bunch of meals for the new mums of our group as well as for future new mums. These will also be available for other times when one of us may be in need of some help for some reason or another!
As you can tell from the pics, our crazy cooks in the kitchen had a blast, and the rest of us had a truck load of clothes to sift through to stock up for the year!
Thanks again all, its great to be able to help each other out in these ways :)

We also got to catch a glimpse of some of our lovely newborns! Did you know there have been 9 new babies from WonderMums this year, with Jo Pointon and Julia Hill still to have theirs also!! Congratulations to you all!
On a side note, please remember that next Tuesday 3rd August, we are meeting at Cafe Flavor, Manukau City Baptist Church, 9 Lambie Drive. They have an enclosed playground for kids. Hot drink and cake for $3. 10am!

A note of Thanks from Charm

Hi WonderMums,

It was such a blessing that your WonderMums group came to support my family. I want to share my thanks on the blogsite.

I have been to WonderMums since 2009. I always felt very lucky that I can join in with the activites in a mums group. I am a Christian and I believe God has the best plans for me and one is the opportunity to meet those lovely mums. I felt many mums, especially some leaders contributed time and put a lot of effort in to make the mums group very successful.
The other week, after my labour, I was having a very hard time because my older son Ethan got sick and he needed isolation from me and Asher, our new born baby. I have to look after Asher by myself as I cannot get any support from my relatives because they need to look after Ethan in another house. Praise GOD, God sent angels to help me. The WonderMums group helped me and delivered dinner to me for the first week I was home. I am very appreciative and I believe God sent those angels to me.

So a big thanks to those angels and lovely mums: Jo W, Jo P, Julia, Monique, Ruth and Pastor Lois.

May God Bless the WonderMums group and through their blessing may more mums understand God's power.

Kind Regards,
Charm

Oops this is a bit late, but wanted to put up a few of the cute pics of our outing to Butterfly Creek this term! It was as usual, a fun time, but made extra special by 3 of our children celebrating their birthdays. Abbey and Josh turned 2! and Tayla turned 1! Happy Birthday to you all!

Luke Samuel Kilpatrick arrived this morning (4th July) at 9.37am! He weighed in at a 'delicate' 4.17kg (9lb 3oz) and was 52cm long. The labour was a good one (if you can say that about ANY labour!), and Laura and Luke are doing really well. We are soo looking forward to cuddles with him!

Welcome Baby Asher!

Baby Asher arrived on the 29th June at 10.59pm. He weighed in at 3.19kg (7lb) and was 49.5cm long.

A note from Charm: "I kept praying during my pregnancy, and even though people were giving me negative information, (& forcing me to do precautionary tests), I was calm and I believed in God. I left everything in God's hands who is a miracle-worker! My labour was so good, only three pushes and Asher was born!! Also, I thank you for the WonderMum's group - you guys give me power and support. Thanks a lot!"

A huge congratulations to you & your family, Charm! We are soo looking forward to having cuddles!!

International Family Food Night

Wow what a cool evening the International Food Night turned out to be! The food was delicious and the company awesome! Thanks heaps to everyone who came and bought their fabulous dishes. I bet there'll be a bit of recipe swapping going on now! We all enjoyed the chance to get to know each other's families a little more. A huge special thanks to everyone also who stayed and helped clean-up, especially to Lois Sheppard who just got stuck in and made cleaning as quick and easy as possible for us all.

Charity Tuesday

Well, its been a while since our 'Charity Tuesday', but we wanted to say a big Thank You, for all the canned food donated for the Salvation Army food bank, as well as for all your creative card making. As you can see, we are a very skilled group of mums :)! These cards have been given to hospice patients for personal use and I'm sure are very appreciated. Faith Bullen was kind enough to share both her time and craft resources with us, and we were also able to make a card to take home. Thank you Faith! It is always such a privilige to be able to do something for someone else and we certainly enjoyed this way of giving this term.
